Airport soars to a new high

Chandigarh: Air travel is picking up in the city with movement of passengers at the local airport reaching almost 9 lakh in 2012-2013, a growth of 2 lakh passengers in two years.
The number shot up from nearly 6.55 lakh in 2010-11 to 8.86 lakh. Importantly, in 2006, there was movement of only around 1.5 lakh passengers.
The growth has been despite Kingfisher, a private airline, already suspending its operations from the local airport. The increase is significantly high, highlighting the scope of more flights from Chandigarh airport. Similarly the movement of aircraft from the airport has also reached 11,842 flights in 2012-13 from 9,955 in 2010-11.
