Autistic air passengers left out of DGCA draft

Mumbai:  The Directorate General of Civil Aviation's (DGCA) draft on guidelines for airlines for carriage of passengers with physical and mental disability would have been received well had they incorporated autism in their document. The draft, which is accessible on the DGCA website, mentions passengers with physiological disorder, cosmetic disfigurement and those with diseases and conditions like epilepsy, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, cancer, heart condition, diabetes, mental retardation, emotional illness, drug addiction and even alcoholism. For some reason, the draft has left out Autism Spectrum Behavioural Disorder, which could mean that if the draft is adopted in its current form, autistic passengers could continue to face discrimination.
