Aviation minister 'threatens to quit UPA' over PMO's resistance to Jet-Etihad deal

Sources claim civil aviation minister Ajit Singh has threatened to quit the UPA government after accusing the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) of blocking a Rs 2,050 crore deal with Jet-Etihad.
The minister has been trying to push through deal, but the government has turned cautious as concerns over security and the possibility of a negative fallout for India's civil aviation sector have come to the fore.
A baffled Ajit Singh has reportedly threatened to quit the UPA government while blaming the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) for creating hurdles.
"I don't see a problem in the Abu Dhabi deal going through. Ask the Prime Minister's Office if the deal is on hold despite being signed," Singh said on Tuesday.
The PMO went into damage control mode and issued a statement saying there were no differences within the government over the issue.
At the same time, however, the PMO stated that "as far as the Bilateral Air Services Agreement was concerned, the Cabinet Note was asked to be kept in abeyance till responses on letters with complaints on the agreement and on security concerns were received".
