Commandos 'rescue' 165 flyers at airport

Ahmedabad:  None of the 165 passengers on board the SpiceJet flight which landed for refuelling at Ahmedabad airport had an inkling that they would have to go through the horrifying experience of a hijack which eventually turned out to be a mock disaster drill. The passengers had a harrowing time over two hours as the security agencies carried out the drill.
Within 15 minutes of the anti-hijacking operation, the top officials of security agencies including the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Gujarat Police had reached the spot. The four 'terrorists' in civilian clothes inside the plane demanded money, in response to which the security officials asked for time to arrange for the money.
The officials bought the crucial 90 minutes from the 'terrorists,' sufficient time for NSG commandos from Mumbai to reach Ahmedabad airport. Before the NSG commandos could reach, the 'terrorists' made a new demand to fly out of the city airport.
