Delegation to meet Fernandes to save Jakkur Airport

Bangalore: The state government will take a delegation to the Union Minister for Surface Transport to save the state-owned Jakkur Airport located on the National Highway, Home Minister K J George said.
Responding to a calling attention motion by BJP member G Madhusudhan in the Legislative Council here on Thursday, George said a delegation led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Youth Service Minister Abhaychandra Jain and other members will meet Union Minister Oscar Fernandes and urge him to stop work on the elevated road connecting the city and Bangalore International Airport (BIA) near Jakkur.
Denying charges made by a BJP member that Central Public Works Department (CPWD) authorities have prevailed upon the Union government to neglect the state government’s repeated pleas to stop the work, he said the delegation will request the Centre to look into all possibilities to save the airport.
Minister Jain said the CPWD, by not taking an NOC from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has violated the Aircraft Act 1994. He said they are also looking into possibilities of changing the direction of runways.
