International airport on cards

Bhubaneswar: Although the old domestic terminal at Biju Patnaik Airport is being modified to run international operations, but the state government is exploring setting up a new airport over 2,000 acre at Malipada near Khurda.
The government on Thursday deposited Rs 6 lakh with Airports Authority of India (AAI) for feasibility study of the proposed site. Two weeks ago, housing and urban development (H & UD) secretary Injeti Srinivas took stock of the requirement of land for the proposed airport.
"We have sought a feasibility report of the proposed site from the AAI. About 1,200 acre government land is available but we need to acquire rest 800 acre land from private parties," said an officer of H & UD department.
