International status but no international flights at Srinagar airport

Srinagar: After giving an international status to the Srinagar international airport, the state government has failed to persuade the civil aviation ministry to operate direct international flights from the airport.
Airport authorities officials based in Srinagar told Kashmir times that Srinagar International airport has virtually lost its sanctity as only few direct flights were operated from the airport since international status was given to airport two years back.
The airport official further said that several rounds of talks had held between state government and centre civil aviation ministry for the last couple of years to operationalize the direct flights from the airport, but nothing concrete have emerged from the meetings and only domestic flights are being operational from the Srinagar airport,” he said.
The central civil aviation ministry had stopped the direct international flights from the airport saying of poor response of the passengers, but the airport official authorities in Srinagar are refuting the poor response hypothesis of the civil aviation saying that they are regularly receiving calls from the passengers eagerly waiting to board from the international flights.
