Guwahati: Expressing discontent over the Union civil aviation ministry's decision to privatize the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport, the Airports Authority Employees Union (AAEU) on Friday staged a protest at the airport.
Over 100 AAEU members shouted slogans against the Centre's move to privatize LGBI Airport. The union said that privatization of the airport will make the future of the government employees working at the airport uncertain.
"The private firms will have a separate recruitment policy and many employees of the Airports Authority of India will be transferred to other non-privatized airports after the privatization. We have already seen this in the case of Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport and Indira Gandhi International Airport, which were recently privatized," said AAEU regional secretary (NE) Pabitra Das.
