Raipur: In a peculiar incident, a young Merchant Navy officer was detained and later booked by the Raipur police on Sunday for alerting the staff of an Indigo flight about an unattended bag lying on the seat while the aircraft was getting ready for take off.
The charge on PS Chauhan was that he had publically voiced his fears about possibilities of the bag containing a bomb, creating panic and leading to a two and a half-hour delay in the flight. The Indigo flight (6E-245) from Calcutta had arrived here at 8.15am and was scheduled to take off for Indore at 8.50am. However, it was allowed to take off from Raipur only at 11.30am after the bomb squad conducted checks and cleared it. According to airline officials, Chauhan (27), who was travelling from Calcutta to Indore on seat 13-B, had gone to the toilet while passengers from Raipur were boarding the plane. When he returned to his seat at about 8.35am, a lady staff on board inquired with him about a handbag lying on a seat next to 13-B. When Chauhan told her that the bag wasn't his, she reportedly asked him what to do. The young officer told her that 'times weren't right and the bag could contain a bomb'.
