Mopa farmers vow not to part with fields for airport

Panaji: The farmers affected by the proposed Mopa airport project have hit out against alleged vested political interests behind the airport proposal and vowed not to part with their land.
Addressing mediapersons, Sandeep Kambli, secretary of Mopa Vimantal Pidit Xetkari Samiti, criticized a rival group that is supporting the project and "fooling the people".
"Another group has been formed to support the Mopa airport. They are only fooling the people with their talk. It is clear they have been propped up by some political forces with vested interests, who want to finish the Bahujan Samaj" Kambli said.
He further said that "we have been opposing the Mopa airport proposal for years", while the pro-Mopa group has been formed just a few weeks ago. "The people are trying to make it appear to be a North Goa versus South Goa issue," he said.
