Mysore airport expansion plan takes wing

Mysore: Mysore Airport expansion plan has taken wings again.
The district administration on Monday asked National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to start the upgradation works on a stretch of NH-212 between Mysore and Nanjangud from Kadakola next to the workable airport, sparing a chunk of land needed for airport expansion. Kadakola is near the temple town and abuts an industrial belt.
Airports Authority of India (AAI) needs land primarily for the extension of the runway by some 1km. AAI, which has reserved funds for the expansion of the airport, has made it clear to the state government that it will not take up works to expand the airport until Mysore-Nanjangud stretch is realigned.
While district minister V Sreenivasa Prasad and Chamarajnagar MP R Dhruvanarayan are pushing for upgradation of NH-212 -- that connects Kozhikode in Kerala with Kollegal in Chamarajnagar district via Mysore -- the realignment of NH stretch between Mysore and Nanjangud requires chief minister Siddaramaiah's concurrence given that it passes through his Varuna constituency.
