New Delhi: Crises in aviation just don't seem to end. India may soon be without a full time aviation safety regulator. Aviation ministry brass says current director general Arun Mishra has been out of his cadre state of West Bengal for nine years in top aviation positions and may have to be sent back.
"There is no officer who fits the bill to be the next DG. The hunt will also take a long time because of that reason. We may have to give additional charge to our joint secretary who looks after DGCA. It is abig problem," admitted a top aviation ministry honcho.
In the last nine years, Mishra has been joint secretary in the ministry; India's representative to International Civil Aviation Organization and then was brought in as DGCA. "He has the experience and knowledge (to remain DG) but retaining an IAS officer at the centre for so long is not easy," said sources.
