Pro-Mopa group urges govt to go ahead with project

Panaji: Seeking to counter the steadily growing opposition in the state to the proposed Mopa airport, a new group 'People for Mopa international airport' (PFMIA) on Thursday urged the government to proceed with the airport proposal.
Addressing the media on Thursday, secretary of the group Prasad Shapurkar claimed that the people of Pernem are in favour of the proposed Mopa airport.
Shapurkar, a resident of Mandrem, said, "The people of Mopa do not have objection to the airport. Some farmers who are not from the area are opposing it and misleading the people that there is opposition from the farmers."
He further said, "Some people from Salcete taluka are opposing the airport. We will not bow before Salcete taluka."
