New Delhi: Senior BJP leader and former finance minister Yashwant Sinha has demanded that a Supreme Court (SC) monitored investigation by the CBI into the Jet-Etihad deal, saying the it "smacks of a scam". "It is already stinking... The government of India should order a SC monitored CBI enquiry to probe the manner in which the deal has been done," he told reporters on July 3.
Sinha said the deal, under which the Abu Dhabi-based airline is set to pick up a 24% stake in Jet for 2,058 crore, was predicated on a separate deal for airline bilateral rights at the government level that was rushed through.
"The manner in which the deal was concluded two days after the bilateral agreement with the UAE was signed, assigning them an extra 37,000 seats clearly indicates that these two private parties were fully aware of what the government was going to do and the deal was predicated on the number of seats to be made available," he said.
