Aircraft crash-lands in Deoghar, two injured

Ranchi: The state's civil aviation director and his aide were injured when a two-sitter aircraft crash-landed in Deoghar district, 300km away from Ranchi early on Wednesday. Aviation director S P Sinha sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to Ranchi's Apollo Hospital. Doctors said Sinha sustained injuries in his head, under the eyes, and in one of the legs.
Loco pilot J P Singh sustained minor injuries, though. The plane was to be used for flying over the Baidynath Temple. Participating in Akash Bandana (hovering over the temple) during Shravani Mela is considered to be pious and hundreds of devotees do so every year.
The officials at the airport decided to conduct a trial of the aircraft on Wednesday morning before it was pressed into Akash Bandana service. It had been offering Akash Bandana services and the civil aviation officials had taken it for maintenance late on Monday.
