Panaji: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Goa, has begun an investigation against the officials of Airports Authority of India (AAI) and a contractor in connection with the alleged 1crore scam in the purchase of cement bags for the construction of a new apron at the Dabolim international airport.
Speaking to TOI, CBI superintendent of police (SP) Prem Kumar said that they registered a case against the contractor and officials of AAI and investigations are in progress.
After receiving information from sources about the scam, CBI initiated a suo-motu investigation into the case. A preliminary investigation revealed that the contractor has shown a higher number of cement bags that those actually purchased for the construction of the new apron.
Kumar said that the investigation revealed that the contractor did not use so many cement bags. The construction of the apron is ongoing and the contract was awarded two years ago.
