CIAL domestic traffic dips

Kochi: The Cochin International Airport has registered an upswing in the number of passengers in the international sector while the number of passengers in the domestic sector has fallen. The phenomenon has happened corresponding to the rise in the number of international flights from the airport and fall in those of domestic flights.
The bane of the domestic sector has been the fall of the Kingfisher Airlines which had eight flights per day from the airport to different destinations, such as Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and also Agathi.
In the international sector, Etihad and Kuwait Airlines added three flights per week while Sri Lankan Airlines came up with seven flights per week and Tiger Airlines with four additional flights weekly.
In the international sector the passenger traffic grew by 13.37 per cent to 29,34,017 in 2012-13, from 25,880,32 in 2011-12.
