New Delhi: A number of Indian charter aircraft companies are operating overseas flights without having the clearance to do so. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Wednesday issued an order forbidding unauthorized foreign charter flights with immediate effect and asked the operators to first get all the required clearances.
This will ground Indian corporates and high net worth individuals who roam the globe in charter jets or force them to fly schedule airlines. It will, however, not affect the private business jets of big corporate houses used for flying to foreign shores.
DGCA chief Arun Mishra clamped down on this practice, which industry sources point out could not have continued for years without connivance of DGCA insiders. Apart from being a gross violation of rules, this unauthorized operation has been putting the lives of the high net worth individuals hiring planes at grave risk.
