'Find solutions to medical problems faced by pilots'

Bangalore: Squadron doctors and aviators must share the right relationship in order to find solutions to medical problems faced by pilots on long-duration flights, said Air Chief Marshal N A K Browne, Chief of Air Staff.
He was in the city on Friday to inaugurate the 53rd annual conference of the Indian Society of Aerospace Medicine (ISAM) on the theme ‘Surmounting Hostile Environments: Aeromedical Solutions’.
“Flying an aircraft puts a lot of physical and cognitive stress on the body. Aerospace medicine is expected to assist pilots in surviving hostile environments and help enhance their performance,” Browne said while adding that issues like rest, fatigue and hydration persist in long-duration flights.
“There is restricted mobility and pilots need to have sustained attention on long-range flights like the C-17 aircraft and strategic tankers. ISAM must deliberate more on this,” he said.
