Group to assess airport management

Chennai: An inter-ministerial group (IMG) has been formed to monitor and recommend the implementation of a model for operation and management of Chennai airport in public private partnership (PPP) mode.
In a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha, minister of State for civil aviation K.C. Venugopal said the management of the airport that was modernised at a cost of Rs. 2,015 crore will be taken up by forming a joint venture with global operators, with Airports Authority of India (AAI) being the lead partner.
Under the planning commission, a task force for financing a plan for the development of airports had been constituted and it has recommended that the operations and management of Chennai airport be taken up in the PPP mode. The IMG will also advise Kolkata airport in this regard.
