Kolkata: Among the 125 airports maintained by the Airports Authority of India, only 10 made profit in the last fiscal.
After registering a collective loss of approximately $0.1 billion in FY13, Indian airports are likely to lose in FY14 also, a Prabhudas Lilladhar industry research report said on Friday.
However, development of regional airports is still on the priority list, which is expected to aid the traffic growth, analyst Rupa Shah of Prabhudas Lilladhar said
Indian airports witnessed passenger traffic fall of 1.9 per cent in FY13 after witnessing a 13.2 per cent growth in FY12. Some 159 million travellers used the airport facilities.
There was a 200bps YoY fall in the share of domestic passengers. International passenger traffic growth, however, remained subdued at 5.4 per cent in FY13 as compared to 7.6 per cent in FY12.
