Airport construction approaching turbulence

Airport construction in developing countries has primarily been facilitated by public-private partnerships, with emerging economies benefiting massively from an expansion of their aviation sector.
But a lack of nationwide policy and joined-up thinking is leading to problems.
Airport’s abilities in attracting new business has helped India, for example, grow into the tenth largest economy in the world and it now has 17 international airports.
But there are concerns surrounding the lack of supportive infrastructure and sustainability around airports that come about through Public Private Partnerships (PPP), and as a country stretches itself further and further and the world’s economy reawakens, construction in the aviation sector could stall.
South America, India and Africa have all achieved a high level of airport construction in the past 50 years through the use of PPPs – a partnership of government and a privately owned company in delivering a public service or venture.
