Airport stakeholders conduct anti-hijack drill

Nagpur: A mock anti-hijack drill was conducted at Nagpur's Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport on Thursday. The drill, aimed at checking the preparedness of the airport to handle a hijack situation, took place at about 11.30am and concluded in two hours.
The drill was convened by the Aerodrome Committee, which is chaired by the commissioner of police (CP). Members of the committee include heads of other stake holders of the airport like Airports Authority of India (AAI), Mihan India Limited (MIL), Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) and the airlines. The head of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) from Mumbai was also present for the drill.
"This is an exercise aimed at training staff in the ways and steps to be followed in case of such an emergency situation. All the steps which ought to be taken by the respective authorities were acted out meticulously,' said Abhadesh Prasad, chief operating officer (COO), MIL.
