Hyderabad: With the wedding and festival season approaching, the Directorate General of Revenue Intelligence (DGRI) has sounded an alert to check the smuggling of gold at all international airports and other transit points.
Authorities at the Hyderabad international airport and 19 other cities have been asked to remain vigilant as they fear that the festival season will push the demand for gold, official sources said. They have been asked to minutely scan suspects and all commercial consignments.
Citing recent changes in the import duty on gold by the finance ministry, the Directorate General of Revenue Intelligence, which analyses intelligence on smuggling and customs duty evasion has sent an alert to all customs check points, international transit routes, including the Attari-Wagah border (Punjab) and Munabao Railway Station in Rajasthan among others.
