Akola airport's extension faces stiff opposition

Nagpur:  Though no one associated with the Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth (PDKV) is directly or indirectly opposing extension of the Akola airport, they do not want development at the cost of the university which was created in Vidarbha after a lot of bloodshed, sacrifice of many people and a mass movement.
The present and past staff of the university, citizens as well as politicians are up in arms against the project in present form as it will destroy the entire research of the university of past 43 years. "PDKV is the pride of the city and region. Expenses on compensation will be much more than developing a new and bigger airport with futuristic plan of next 25-30 years," said Rajabhau Deshmukh, a retired teacher and political and social activist.
Deshmukh has been associated with the university from day one. In fact, he was part of the movement which brought the university to Akola.
