Aviation Ministry sitting on regulator’s recommendations

New Delhi: Six months after the DGCA submitted its report, the Civil Aviation Ministry is yet to act on curbing fraudulent activities, such as overcharging and tampering by travel agents.
Officials of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said such activities also lead to scams such as the recent one on leave travel concession (LTC). One such matter was investigated by the DGCA after receiving instructions from the Aviation Ministry in January.
The Ministry asked the aviation regulator to investigate on a complaint forwarded by the Rajya Sabha Secretariat. The DGCA submitted its recommendations in February.
“Since this is the first case of its kind brought to the notice of this office, there is strong apprehension that many travel agents may be engaged in similar fraudulent activities,” the regulator said in its report.
