Bengal Aerotropolis project finally set to take off

Andal: After several run-ins with the Mamata Banerjee government over the past two years, the first signs of rapprochement were visible today, with the Chief Minister rechristening the project after one of her two favourite poets, Kazi Nazrul Islam, on her maiden visit to Andal, the project site.
The airport will be probably among the few in the world to be named after a poet. The José Joaquin de Olmedo International Airport, serving Guayaquil in Ecuador, is named after José Joaquin de Olmedo an Ecuadorean poet while the Mytilene International Airport in Greece is also referred to as Odysseas Elytis, after the Greek poet and Nobel Laureate.
For Banerjee, Kazi Nazrul Islam was an obvious choice, given that he is oft-quoted by her, alongside Rabindranath Tagore. The poet's daughter-in-law, Kalyani Kaji shared the stage with the Chief Minister at today's event.
The greenfield airport project, in which Singapore's Changi owns a 26% stake, is finally expected to take off in April next year after a two-year delay.
