Chavan summoned to present review of Navi Mumbai airport to PM

Mumbai: Anxious to showcase Navi Mumbai airport as a tour de force of the UPA government before its tenure expires, the Prime Minister's office has summoned Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar to Delhi on Monday for a review of the project, which has been several years in the planning now.
The PM's office has also ordered the state government and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to finish all land acquisition formalities and appoint a developer for the project by February 15, 2014.
The state government is now scrambling together a presentation. "We will present a review to the Prime Minister on Monday evening," Chavan told Mumbai Mirror. He deflected questions on whether the deadline of February 15 could be met. Pawar will be present in his capacity as chief of the NCP, whose functionary the CIDCO chairman is. CIDCO is the development institution for Navi Mumbai.
