Decks clear for air travel to three districts

Lucknow: After approving allocation of land for construction of airports in Allahabad, Kanpur and Bareilly, the state cabinet on Tuesday decided to hand over the airstrips in Moradabad, Faizabad and Saifai, used so far by only Indian Air Force aircraft to the Airport Authority of India (AAI), for further development. It also gave its nod to hand over the Bhimrao Ambedkar airstrip in Meerut to the AAI for upgrading.
The AAI has been planning to take up development of the airports in Uttar Pradesh in phases and projected the land requirement accordingly to the state government. Union civil aviation minister Ajit Singh has been seeking transfer of various airstrips, including Meerut and Jhansi, to the AAI to upgrade them since last year.
