DRDO tests bulletproof glass samples for installation at Aerocity hotels

Mumbai: Setting up of five-star hotels as part of the Delhi Aerocity project, near Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), is expected to become a reality with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in Chandigarh having recently completed testing bulletproof glass samples that have been asked to be installed in the planned properties. As per directions of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India on January 30, 2013, Aerocity hotels need to install "toughened glasses with bulletproof film" on windows facing the airport runway. This was done to allay security concerns as it was feared that sabotage activities could be undertaken to target runways and VVIP operational areas from these buildings.
