Far East carriers make a beeline for Kochi airport

Kochi: A greater number of foreign carriers are starting operations to Far East destinations from Cochin international airport, giving the airport another high-profile identity after the Gulf.
The latest airline to start operations from Kochi is Malaysian Airlines, which is a full service carrier to Kuala Lumpur daily. Already Silk Air, which is also a full service carrier, is operating daily to Singapore while Tiger Airways, which is a low cost airline, gives connectivity to Singapore four times a week. Air Asia is another low-cost carrier which is now offering a daily service to Kuala Lumpur.
Besides these carriers, three more airlines are in talks with CIAL to start operations to Far-East destinations. These are Malaysia-based low cost carrier Malindo Air, Indonesia-based Garuda Airlines and Thai Airways, the national flag carrier of Thailand.
