New Delhi: The Gulf will now be the gateway between India and the western world. Replicating the hugely successful Emirates-Dubai model, Jet Airways on Wednesday issued a circular to travel agents and asked them to sell its tickets to Europe and Africa on the network of its new partner Abu Dhabi's Etihad airlines.
A fare war on international routes is now on the cards — unlike domestic airfares that are set to defy gravity now. Jet told agents it is offering "most competitive" fares for destinations in France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, UK, Ireland, Nigeria, Morocco and Egypt on the onward flights to and from these places and Abu Dhabi.
"Emirates has been traditional leader for flying people between India and Europe, Africa and West Asia. Other Gulf, West Asian and European carriers will vie for same traffic. A fare war is imminent," said a travel agent. Jet plans to operate flights between 23 Indian cities and points in US, Gulf, east Africa and Europe via Abu Dhabi, in addition to direct flights to and from India.
