Kovai airport awaits land clearance

Coimbatore:  City MP P R Natarajan on Saturday appealed to the state government to initiate steps to expedite the land acquisition process for the expansion of Coimbatore airport. "The slow pace of the process has turned out to be a major cause of concern," he said. Addressing the media in the city on Saturday, Natarajan said the state government is yet to respond to the proposal sent by the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
"AAI had sent a letter to the chief secretary in April demanding around 1,566 acres of land for the expansion of the airport. However, the chief secretary and the transport secretary claim that they have not received any such letter which in turn means that the chief minister does not know about the matter," said Natarajan. He urged the chief minister to look into the matter and take proper action.
