Chennai: With 2014 general election inching closer, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has advanced the pre-application conference to Friday (Sept.20) from September 26 in relation to privatisation of Chennai airport. The meeting has been scheduled to take place at a hotel in Delhi.
While the trade unions are already decrying the unnecessary haste with which the privatisation process is being pushed through, the AAI has also advanced the last date for receiving queries to Thursday (Sept. 19) instead of September 23.
“The pre-bid meeting of Chennai airport has been advanced to Friday, mainly to hold it together with the conference planned in relation to privatisation of Lucknow airport. The last date for receiving queries for Lucknow airport has expired on September 17, while the pre-bid meeting has been scheduled for September 20,” said an AAI official. If the bidding process proceeds as per schedule, the privatisation process of Chennai airport could well be completed by January 2014.
