Trichy airport gets four sniffer dogs

Trichy: Four of the six specially trained sniffer dogs for security operations at the Trichy international airport have arrived. They include three Labradors (one male and two females) and a cocker spaniel.
The airport authority had allotted a budget of Rs 25,000 each for the purchase of the dogs, and they were bought from Hyderabad. The dogs will be under the control of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) that provides the overall security to the airport.
On the development front, the plan for the extension of the existing terminal building by around 80 meters on both sides has officially been received, said an airport source. The work on the Rs 150-crore project would start soon, and when completed it would augment the passenger handling capacity at the airport. Considering the developmental work that is currently going on at the airport, and taking into account the likely growth of the export volumes through the airport, the airport would soon be upgraded, said a source.
