Chennai: Even though the Centre is actively pursuing steps to privatise Chennai airport, the employees hope that the state government which had opposed stake sale in NLC would follow the same procedure to save the city airport from getting privatised.
“We have made an appeal to CM Jayalalithaa and requested for an audience with her to explain our problems. If she interferes and raises her voice against the privatisation of the airport, then it can surely be stopped,” said L. George, regional secretary, Airports Authority Employees Union.
Noting that Airports Authority of India (AAI) would become a sick unit if its major revenue yielding airports like Chennai and Kolkata are privatised, George said that more than 30,000 employees would suffer in that process.
