A month after ban, 4 charter flight firms allowed to fly abroad

Mumbai: Over a month after it banned all Indian aircraft charter firms from operating international flights, the Indian aviation regulator, in the last one week, has permitted four companies to fly abroad. In the last seven weeks though, the industry has lost crores of rupees.
"Last year, nearly 10,000 international charter flights were operated by companies based in India," said Capt R K Bali, secretary, Business Aircraft Operators Association. The current closure has resulted in losses that may run into crores of rupees, he said.
The four companies that have been cleared to operate international flights include Mumbai-based Reliance Commercial Dealers Ltd, which has a fleet of nine aircraft, including two helicopters; Delhi's DLF Ltd and EIH Ltd, both operate a total of three aircraft, said an aviation source. Thirty-six more companies with a non-scheduled aircraft operators permit (NSOP) await DGCA clearances to restart their international operations.
