Air India derosters 40 attendants

Mumbai:  In the past week, Air India derostered 40 flight attendants for refusing to operate flights. Their union alleged the 40 had protested against being placed on duty under the provisions of a work-rest norm that is currently not in force.
Though the airline denied the derostering, it was learnt that it had cancelled Diwali leave applications of all other crew members to cope with the shortage of 40 people; an insider said executive crew working in offices were asked to start flying.
An AI spokesperson said the only step taken was serving show-cause notices on 16.
The union also alleged that the management took the disruptive move to force a protest which in turn would favour private airlines during the forthcoming festive season.
