DGCA issues strict guidelines as demand for helicopters soars ahead of polls

New Delhi: Helicopter business in India has never been a huge profit earning investment due to high operational cost and less return from it. But election is the time for which helicopter providers waits for and after the announcement of elections in five states political leaders and parties have booked several sorties for campaigning in several states and especially remote areas. Helicopter booking has been done mostly in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh due to lack of connectivity and lack of availability of airports and airstrips where private charter can be landed.
Booking of choppers in Delhi and Mizoram is very low as compare to other states going for election. The private operators are charging rates higher than the normal price due to huge demand. The 12 private operators are fully booked for election campaigning and are not taking any private sortie until election campaigning is finished. Operators claim that they have even received booking for the Loksabha election campaigning.
