Kozhikode: The ongoing protests by farmers against the setting up of the proposed feeder airport project in Wayanad on prime agriculture land at Cheekkalloor and nearby villages have gained momentum with major political parties lending their support to the collectorate march held on Friday.
Around 1,000 farmers and agricultural workers attended the march organised by the Cheekkalloor - Eranelloor- Mechery Agricultural Land Protection Forum.
The march was supported by political parties including CPM, CPI, and BJP apart from tribal and environmental groups.
Inaugurating the protest march, environmentalist C R Neelakantan said that the project would adversely affect the lives of hundreds of farmers in the area and wreak havoc on the environmentally fragile area.
