Kannur: : Ports minister K Babu admitted here on Saturday that the planning errors in rehabilitating people for the Kannur International Airport at Mattannur were hampering the runway development.
"The rehabilitation was done before the project report was finalized. This planning error has led to the present concern: how to move the already rehabilitated people," the minister said on the sidelines of a function at Azhikkal here. "Anyhow, we will have to sort out that problem at any cost or it will affect the airport development. I am confident of solving the issue through discussions with those concerned."
TOI had reported the planning error in the Kannur airport project, leading to a concern that some of the rehabilitated people would have to be moved again if the runway had to be extended in future. Also, the people in its vicinity could develop hearing problems once the airport becomes functional.
