New Delhi: Government departments now want private companies' expenditure in public-private-partnership (PPP) projects to be audited by Comptroller and Auditor General ( CAG). The urban development ministry, which executes PPPs in urban infrastructure including Metro rails, has favoured such audit in case the project cost increases beyond 10%.
Sources said the ministry will soon put this proposal before the Cabinet. While there is no such proposal from other infrastructure ministries, officials in road transport and highways ministry said the UD ministry's proposal was a welcome step which would check runaway expenditure claims by private players. They may follow suit.
UD ministry was recently asked to give its view after the Delhi Airport Metro line contract was terminated by the private party, a subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure.
