Granny, 85, ecstatic after Dasara joyride

Mysore:  Gangamma's dream of touching the sky was fulfilled when she flew during the Dasara joyrides that began at Mysore airport on Saturday.
Gangamma, 85, hailing from Davanagere, says: "Last year, I had told my children I wanted to fly in a plane. It didn't happen last Dasara. This year, I am happy because my wish has been fulfilled, and because I was the first person to fly."
She was accompanied by her son, granddaughter and two great granddaughters. He granddaughter Jayashree, a Mysorean, says Gangamma was asked whether she wanted any family member to accompany her during the ride. Her reply was: "I want to ride alone and touch the sky." A S Dange, chief flying instructor at the Government Flying Training School, who piloted the three-seater Cessna-152, made sure with Gangamma's family members she had no ailments.
