UAV to keep an eye on Thevar puja

Chennai: An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) will be pressed into service for regulating traffic and maintaining law and order during the coming birth anniversary celebrations of Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar at Paramakudi on October 30, which is celebrated as 'guru puja' by the thevar community across Tamil Nadu.
UAVs are small aircraft that are operated by remote control.
They are normally used for anti-Maoist operations in other parts of the country. An UAV was successfully used to maintain security during the birth anniversary celebrations of dalit leader Immanuel Sekaran in Ramanathapuram on September 11. Police had refused to allow mass movement of vehicles during the celebration, and allowed only 200 vehicles of political and community leaders to reach Sekaran's memorial.
