Kochi: Eleven months after Air India Express (AIE) shifted its headquarters to Kochi, the much-anticipated move seems to have hit a roadblock with the budget carrier failing to get senior officials to relocate to the city.
Minister of state for civil aviation K C Venugopal said the full-fledged AIE headquarters would become operational in Kochi by December. Of the 100 employees required at the new headquarters in Kochi, only around 40 have been posted till March.
However, the minister said that it was tough to get senior officials to migrate to Kochi from other metros in the country.
"I was under the impression that Malayalis working in other parts of the country in Air India, AIE or the erstwhile Indian Airlines will be happy to move to Kochi. But when we gave internal advertisements the response was very tardy. Later we went for open advertisement seeking applicants,'' the minister said
