CCTV eye on roads to IGI airport

New Delhi: To counter threat to IGI airport and surrounding areas, security agencies-along with the airport operator, DIAL-plan to instal CCTV cameras on all approach roads from the city to the airport terminal. The proposal, which was mooted in June this year, aims to map all entry and exit points from the airport and also assist Delhi Police in securing Aerocity hotels and complex.
Sixty cameras will be placed at 14 different locations at the airport terminal. Areas like the Central Spine Road; public transport centre near Centaur hotel; spot near Radisson; and cargo complex have been identified to be put under CCTV surveillance. The proposal has "almost got clearance from BCAS (bureau of civil aviation security)", said an official connected with the security plan, adding that the blueprint of phase one is almost ready.
