Contraband drug seized from passenger at Trichy airport

Trichy: A 25-year-old man was arrested at the Trichy airport on Sunday for possessing 1.75 kg of amphetamine, a psychotropic drug. He had arrived at the airport to take a Kuala Lumpur-bound flight on Sunday morning.
The arrested person has been identified as Umar Farooq. He was caught by the personnel of Central Industrial Security Force after they found the contraband drug while scanning his bags.
Farooq was caught when he was about to board an AirAsia flight to Kuala Lumpur in the morning, airport officials said. The contraband was found after the immigration check was complete.
During questioning Farooq said he received the package from a few people who promised to pay him for taking the bag to Kuala Lumpur. Desperate for money, Farooq agreed to the terms of the smugglers and took the baggage.
