Despite glitches, Air India bets big on Boeing Dreamliners

Mumbai: Despite the current technical glitches with its Boeing Dreamliner 787s, Air India is betting big on the aircraft and plans to deploy them on more than 40% on its international operations by March 2014, said two senior executives in the airline. Air India currently operates about 25% of its 335 weekly international services on the Dreamliner. The total number of services would go up to 350 by end of March 2014. AI's current fleet size (excluding Air India Express which has 21 aircraft currently and Alliance Air which has 10 aircraft currently) is 99 aircraft (62 narrow body and 37 wide body). Its fleet size would go up to 103 aircraft by end of March 2014. Air India is also in the process of selling out five Boeing 777-200 Long Range aircraft to Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways as a part of its fleet restructuring plan.
The airline has so far received 10 of 27 ordered Dreamliners and will receive four more by March 2014. The remaining will be delivered by March 2015.
