DGCA seeks more clarity on 2nd runway

Chennai: Opening of the new secondary runway of Chennai airport, built across the Adyar River, may be further delayed as the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has sought further clarifications on a structural safety study submitted by the Airports Authority of India last month. The AAI had asked Anna University to study the structural strength of the bridge after aviation experts raised questions on its safety.
Sources in DGCA said the report done by Anna University has been sent back to AAI. DDCA director-general Arun Mishra said the study needed more clarifications on various aspects. "We received the study last month and a team of experts have studied it. Since we needed more questions to be answered, we are waiting for the AAI reply before giving safety clearance," he said.
