Export operations hit in Trichy airport

Trichy:  The export activities at Trichy international airport came to a standstill all of a sudden on Friday morning due to the unavailability of plant quarantine officer at the cargo section. After the officer, who issues the mandatory phytosanitary certificates for export, was transferred to Coimbatore on November 18, the airport is yet to get a replacement.
Though, G S Giri, the last incumbent at Trichy airport, was relieved on last Monday, perishables were exported as usual to Colombo, Kuala Lumpur and to Singapore from Monday to Thursday, though there was no one to sign the quarantine papers. However, the fact that exports continued for four days without certification documents came to light when the export operations came to a standstill on Thursday morning.
